Ocampo & Suralvo Firm Trip: Building Connections and Empowerment in Japan

Ocampo & Suralvo Law (“OSL”) believes that professional excellence is fueled by a strong, cohesive team culture so every year, the firm takes time away to reconnect, align its goals, and immerse in new experiences together. This past May 21–26, the OSL team headed to Osaka, Japan, for a memorable firm trip filled with various highlights below.

To fuel growth and collaboration, the OSL partners led a Planning and Empowerment Seminar last May 23 at the vibrant and contemporary Moxy Osaka Honmachi. This session served as our strategic anchor as the OSL partners empowered associates and senior associates to excel in their career progression and in their practice areas.

To celebrate a productive day of planning, the OSL team gathered at Yakiniku Tajima Honmachi for an authentic Japanese dining experience. The OSL team bonded over premium, melt-in-your-mouth grilled Wagyu beef, sharing laughs and stories long into the evening. To cap off the celebration, we also enjoyed drinks at the rooftop of the hotel named The Lively Hakata Fukuoka.

Last May 24, the OSL team immersed in a tour highlighting Japan’s heritage and culture. We began our cultural excursion with a morning walk through Kyoto’s world-famous bamboo forest at Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Right next to the grove, we explored the Tenryu-ji Temple which is the head temple of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism and marveled at its magnificent 14th-century landscape garden. We also took a scenic stroll across the historic Togetsukyo Bridge, capturing panoramic views of the Oi River against a backdrop of lush, forested hills. From catching glimpses of the historic geisha culture in Gion to exploring the stone-paved streets of Higashiyama, the OSL team had an inspiring look into Japan’s living history.

Other itineraries the OSL team were able to enjoy in the firm trip include the Universal Studios Japan, the Osaka Castle, and the districts of Umeda and Dotonbori, among others. Our time in Osaka reminded us that our greatest asset is our people. By investing in our shared culture, we return to our practice re-energized and uniquely equipped to deliver top-tier legal services to our clients.
